Spring

I love the view from my appartment at the moment. It is a green sea where the buildings look like islands... Buenos Aires is a real green city!

Finding time

Time is precious nowadays. It took me much effort to start the challenge but now it already happened and I can go back to my personal work.

My bed needs a summer cover and I began doing small appliqué squares, I already have two of them. The next one in another post.

I will sew them to a huge old blanket and who knows when I'll be finished. I'm ciming to an age where everything seems not that important at all... I take more time for things I like.

A little entertainment

I need a new cover for my bed in summer. Because of that I am kind of deconstructing a quilt... meaning I am working in an unusual way...

I decided to do small square scenes and sew/appliqué them all over a cotton sheet, perhaps not only squares but also  circles...

I will keep you informed, I intend to work on this project behind the scene...

Pillow - The Angel with the Colibris - Polster - Der Engel mit den Kolibris - Coussin - L'Ange avec les Colibris - Almohadoncito - El Angel con los Colibrís

This small pillow is felted and embroidered. I appliqué the little angel with the colibris on a crochet cushion with the backing made of a waxed african cotton. It is signed and appliquéd in the back.
20 x 20 cm - 8"  x 8"

Challenge - Page 8

This is the cover of my booklet. There are still some work to be done on it. First because we must see how to bind the pages next time and second because there is going to be more done after that decision. Detail work to give him a final special touch!

I am posting the details to the challenge members today for catching up with my late posting of last Sunday!

Challenge - Feedback for you all

I would like to than you for all your entries. They are so many I can't keep track with them and I would be sorry not to go into detail for each of them.

Because of that I want to tell you that you are ALL doing wonderful work and I am so happy to have born this challenge into life to have a chance to see and show how people are working on wonderful things at home and publicly.

It is a big satisfaction to enable you to interact and learn from another.

Thank you for being there, keep creating and enjoying!!

Experimenting with a new technique

My studio will be finished by the end of next week and this gives me courage to create and to try new techniques. I want to mix traditional embroidery on fabric with my embellisher techniques on felt. I think the surface is very interesting and this is only the beginning of it.

You can see the felted fabric to the right of the piece and also on the kind of circle around the cross . I used some natural dyed fabric which I did using the only botanical piece ( plant!) I have in my balcony. Just hammered the fruits to the fabric... It is also the background of the king.

This time we are going to explore writing. Either by machine or by hand... and any amount of pages you can intercalate with the other ones till you have your story told!

Challenge - Inspiration

I will be uploading ideas for the binding and covers so that you can already think about it. Just in case that you'd like to adjust some details while doing the pages.

These photos are just meant to let fly your imagination!

The "Codex Rotundus" owes its name to its round shape. It is a small book of hours (9 cm diameter) made in Bruges in 1480. Thumbnails are most likely from the workshop of Dutchman Willem Date illuminator (active from 1450 to 1482). (Hildesheim Cathedral Library, Germany)

CHALLENGE! - Booklet Feltalong – Free – You are invited to sign in! In English

This is the project I was thinking of since a long time. It is about offering a feltalong in the blog and I tried to imagine how to organize it to make it interesting and fun. It should be somehow myterious and a way to encourage you and help you to keep going and discover  techniques in a playful way.

This is the idea:

  1.        The object we are going to be working on is on a small art book doing a page at a time.
  2.         It will be a visit card size so that you will be able to do the pages one by one in no time (I discarded the inchies version of it for being too small!!). The size the first page turned out to be was about 2 ½“ x 3 ½“ - without the button part - and I think it’s a decent size to work with.
  3.       The booklets will have a theme. Mine will be - true to my style - a Medieval one... It can also be a flower book, a discovery book, a houses book, you name it..
  4.    The pages are going to be made out of felt, dry or wet done. You can use fabric instead but because they are so small they can easily be needle felted or cut out from a felted piece and the assembly of the book the way I imagine it will be easier with felt to accomplish.
  5. I will be posting the instructions on Mondays.
  6. We will have a Bookies Group Board in Pinterest.
  7.   I will offer a technique or embellishment  idea  for each page.
  8.  I will be sending more suggestions and ideas per email to the people who inscribe to the feltalong.
  9.  I WILL RAFFLE ONE OF MY PAGES AT THE END BETWEEN THE ONES WHO INSCRIBED TO THE FELTALONG , who participated actively and commented throughout on the blog. each one of the participants is asked to do the same with one of the pages she/he made. To be considered an active participant you should have made at least 6 pages and the cover of the booklet and pin them to the Pinterest Group Board.
  10. Any additional ideas will be posted in my blog The Fabric of Meditation.
  11. You can send me all questions you have per email.
  12. TO INSCRIBE PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO:  lechner.sara@gmail.com
THERE IS A LINK TO THE CHALLENGE FOLDER IN PINTEREST ON THE UPPER RIGHT SIDE OF THE BLOG. ONLY PARTICIPANTS OF THE CHALLENGE WILL BE ABLE TO UPLOAD THEIR BOOKLETS IN IT!!
